I read a lot about new music that made it into this remake but when I wander around there is no music at all! Even though the ruler for music in the settings is at the top. Is it a bug or what am I doing wrong?

Only some scenes/screens have music. So if you're not hearing any from just wandering around generic forest screens, that's to be expected. If you don't hear any music on screens that should have it (e.g. the beanstalk), that's a problem.
